The Wonder Year
a Film By Kenneth Price
Trailer of "The Wonder Years"
On August 28th, 2011, Director Kenneth Price and LRG presented the Canadian Premiere of "The Wonder Year", a year in the life of Grammy Award Producer, 9th Wonder at the Royal Theatre in Toronto.
Having touch down in Toronto to fulfill his duties as an esteemed Producer, 9th made an appearance as a judge for Battle of the Beatmakers and as a speaker for the Pro Audio Conference 2011. There was a buzz of anticipation to see the film documenting the many facets of Patrick Douthit (9th Wonder) chronicling his life as a Producer, Professor, Zulu Nation Member, Father, Student.
"It's the man behind the machine." Within the advent of the digital era and the rise of the independent social media culture, 9th stresses this message wanting people to empower themselves to be the driver of their own destiny. With the intent of keeping the film off the internet and wanting to humanize hip hop, the movie is brought city to city with 9th Wonder and Price having an intimate question and answer period after the film, where people can interact with them proving just how music again is a means to connecting people from all walks of life.

I immediately knew that I had to see this movie ever since I saw the trailer earlier this year. Being the 9th Wonder fan that I am I even considered bringing the film here myself just so I could watch it. I had also been keeping a very close eye on the Jamla Movement of artists that 9th Wonder is leading with the help of Kenneth Price his Director of Visuals. I was so impressed with the amount of video content coming out of that camp that I started following the Director on twitter. I was drawn to his simple but well produced style which I could very much relate to. I really love seeing great videos that I know didn't cost much but look outstanding and complement the music. Another great thing about the event was being able to meet 9th and Price and thank them in person for their work and inspiration. I really enjoyed the movie. Watching 9th in his creative element was inspiring to say the least. It left me craving for more of those moments.

Giles Monette's Log:
Originally I wanted to cover the whole of 9th's trip, and had connected with one of the event organizers three weeks prior. Sadly, we were unable to shadow 9th for the duration of his stay, but we were able to have the proverbial sit-down with the man himself and "The Wonder Year" Director Kenneth Price at the Toronto launch of the movie. It was inspiring to congregate with two individuals who pride themselves on independence and the DIY mentality and lifestyle. We at AHR are proud and honored to support these champions of independent media in their endeavors.
