A war dialer is a hackers tool for dialing all the numbers in a range in order to find any machine that answers.
Many corporations, before the days of cable/broadband/adsl had desktop computers with attached modems that hackers dialed in
order to break into the desktop, and thereafter the corporation. Similarly, many companies had servers with attached modems that were not considered as part of the general security scheme.
The piece is based on an eight channel recording of a set of war dialers cycling through a random sets of numbers. Each channel is visually represented on screen, the amplitude of the audio actuating the objects.
The sound of machine's touching our lives.
