"Hi this is Karen Mueller, with another Habit for Your Healthy Music Habitat.
This time we're going to talk about connecting the dots in the melody of the song.
That means identifying where the melody actually is, as if you were singing the notes, and playing that a little bit louder and your fills a little bit softer.
That applies whether you are strumming a song or fingerpicking a song.
So, for instance, if you are strumming "Amazing Grace", you have: [demonstration].
That's emphasizing the melody as if you were singing it. If you were to play is all at the same volume level: [demonstration], it sounds like that.
The other thing is, when you're playing a waltz (anything in 3/4 time is a waltz), it usually sounds really good if you accent beat ONE.
ONE two three, ONE two three, ONE two three, ONE...
If we were fingerpicking "Amazing Grace" we also find that melody....[demonstration] and try to pull that melody out just a little louder than the fills."
