"Hi, this is Karen Mueller with another Habit for Your Healthy Music Habitat.
Have you ever listen to some music and thought, "Wow! That really has feeling and expression!"
versus something that feels more mechanical when you listen to it?
Well, the key to that would be in something called "dynamics."
And that is how to unlock the way the music makes you feel.
One tool that you can use is volume dynamics.
Getting louder or softer to express the dramatic effect of the song.
For instance, if you're playing a song like, "Edelweiss", you can think of that first phrase of having a sort of arc connection.
Did you hear how it started out a little softer and then (shhhhuh) swept up into a little crescendo and got louder?
And then it kind of brings it back down again.
So experiment with dynamics. Think about how the music makes you feel at certain points, and how you'd like to get a little softer and louder to express that better in the music."
