"Hi, Melanie Johnston here with a Habit for Your Healthy Music Habitat.
My habit is recording.
Get a song to the point where you think you're playing it pretty well and then record it.
And Listen to it.
Best to listen to it with your eyes closed.
You'll be amazed at what you did NOT hear when you were actually playing the song.
Is it choppy? Are you fretting cleanly? Are the dynamics present? Are you phrasing the song how you wanted to phrase it? And what about the tempo?
I am sometimes amazed that when I listen to a tune if feels, sounds a lot slower than it actually felt when I was playing the song.
So listen to those things and be your own best teacher and your own best critic. And you will be surprised at how much improvement you will find in your playing.
