"Hi, this is Karen Mueller with another Habit for Your Healthy Music Habitat.
I like to fingerpick using my three fingers: index, middle and ring, with each one assigned to a string.
When I first started fingerpicking, I did what I see most people doing, and that's thumb on the first string, index finger on the middle and middle finger on the bass, and anchoring with the pinky a little bit here.
Which works fine.
But, for some reason, I can't even remember what, one day, I just grabbed 'em like this (fingers) pressing my thumb on the side of the fretboard, and it just felt so much more comfortable, it just seemed to click. And I've been doing it that way ever since.
It lets me pull in, with the same motion, with each finger, so it's a little easier to control the volume, especially that first string. And they're all a little bit more similar in the way that they sound.
So try different approaches. Something may work for you that you hadn't thought before."
