Surfing breaks down a lot of muscle tissue and if you want to surf your best during a long run of swell, you need to get in the habit of replacing that protein on a regular basis. Here's a good vegan recipe for a high-protein patty that tastes great.
**The negative the effects of soy on male hormone balance has been blown out of proportion lately. This is largely because people have been relying too heavily on often GMO, highly processed soy protein to satisfy their daily protein needs. The truth is that when using organic soy beans, soy can be a healthy, high-fiber way of getting your protein once in a while. The trick is to use organic soy from scratch, in moderation and to combine it with other high protein foods so you're not eating it more than 2/3 times per week.**
4 cups organic whole, dry soybeans
1 large onion
2-3 cloves garlic
1 lb. mushrooms
2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons apple sauce
Soak soybeans overnight. Rinse soybeans and boil until tender (4-6 hours). Fine dice onion, garlic, and mushrooms. Grate carrots. Add veggies to pan with olive oil and saute. Process oats in food processor and set aside. Process sunflower seeds, set aside. Process 1/2 soybeans to a paste and save other half of whole beans. Add veggies and processed ingredients (soybeans, sunflower seeds, and sunflower seeds), and whole soybeans in a bowl. Add apple sauce, soy sauce and coconut oil and mix well. Form patties by hand. Fry in pan until golden brown on each side. Add your favorite burger toppings and enjoy.
