Foro Boca, the new concert hall for the Philharmonic Orchestra of Boca del Rio designed by Rojkind Arquitectos, reaffirms the capacity of iconic cultural architecture to shape a city's urban identity while also addressing critical issues of social inclusion. Presenting visitors with an embracing and inspiring structure, Foro Boca redefines an otherwise remote urban edge by encouraging the unintended casual uses of the exterior with meticulously programmed interior. The project is unified throughout by its use of three simple materials: granite, wood, and concrete, whose thoughtful arrangement mimics the shapes of the ocean jetty and and sounds of the water and wind. Such mastery of urban place-making and architectural design are surely examples of why it was named one of the Projects of the Year as part of the 2018 A+Awards.
