As I looked back on what I know of the life of Alan Beale, our dear friend and Irish set dancing instructor who recently unexpectedly passed away, I was encouraged by the story of Fionn Mac Cumhaill and his band of warriors discussing what they thought the most beautiful sound was and the song Fáinleog (Wanderer) by The Gloaming about the conversation the warriors were having. When someone passes away, it feels like we are being unfairly taken from. It feels like a void and fear of losing connection to the memories and our relationship with the person can set in. While the sadness and feelings of loss aren't going anywhere, as I thought about my brief time with Alan while looking through the photos and videos of him, his family, and our group of dancers, I was able to feel the preciousness and fragility of our existence as well as find new understanding of the Love, Fear, and everything in between that went into what was created and shared between us and what still will remain--The Music of What Happens. Thank you for everything, Alan. We miss you.
