To Kill A King have been developing their rhapsodic guitar-heavy songs with intricate harmonies since forming in their current state in late 2009.
Ralph Pelleymounter (vocals, acoustic guitar), along with Josh Platman (bass), Jon Willoughby (drums), Ian Dudfield (electric guitar) and Ben Jackson (synths, keyboards) quickly caught the attention of a number of industry types, including BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and the guys behind Communion Music. It was debut single “Fictional State”, released in late May, that first captured our interest - An interest that was validated when we finally managed to catch the five piece live at Communion’s Bushstock festival.
Fast forward a few months and we found ourselves on the rooftop of To Kill A King’s East London studio one Friday afternoon where the guys did a number of tracks from their forthcoming EP “ My Crooked Saint” (which is to be released on 17th October on Virgin Records). The lead single off the EP “Bloody Shirt” made a beautiful soundtrack to the setting sun as the guys stripped their performance right back to full acoustic complete with Josh on cello and Ben on glockenspiel.
Special thanks to Jack at EMI and Fortress Studios.
To Kill A King will embark on a UK wide tour, supporting Wakey Wakey throughout October after a headline show at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen on 22nd September. Check out the dates and ticket availability on their website or Facebook page. And we’ll see you there!!
