"St. Bugbot" is the second video I did for my ye-boT initiative, after the first one called "Thought control" (vimeo.com/13330602).
This short is about the beginning and the end of a small civilization of ye-boTs, but also about what comes after the apocalypse.
ye-boT initiative is a custom Paper Toy project open to all the people with a creative impulse and is one of the sub-projects of my roof-project YEBOMAYCU, (http://www.yebomaycu.com). ye-boT Paper Toy is a small robot which has movable parts and is apt for animation. All the customs made by other artists are available for free download on mentioned website and the project doesn't have a deadline, therefore it's still open for submissions.
To make your own toy, all you need is an internet connection, computer, printer, two sheets of A4 paper (on photo paper you'll have results like on the photos from my website), cutter and glue.
"St. Bugbot" was shot during one month of artist in residence program in OK Offenes Kulturhaus OÖ in Linz, Austria, as a part of "Papertoys" project, for NEXTCOMIC Festival 2011.
During the show people were allowed to visit and walk through the installation, which was accompanied with the exhibition of all ye-boT Paper Toys, exclusive Paper Toys made for my online mag "II LOVE" and video projection of my first ye-boT video, "Thought control". In the same institution I met a young compositor Dominik Harrer, who was following the progress of the work and made a great music for the video.
Bugbot is a character I invented in my high school days, in 20th century. It is a light critter, more similar to the wave than a constant cluster of substance, therefore he can move normally from 2D to 3D, from shadow to light, from sketch to sculpture. Many Paper Toys were harmed during the making of this video, but all customs are available for free download on http://www.yebomaycu.com
