When a friend of his took him to see a mountain that had been surface mined, also termed mountaintop removal, Stevens had his "moment".
"It’s really hard to describe or even harder to capture an image. For example, at the opposite end of the spectrum it’s hard to try and capture a photo of the Grand Canyon. It’s like impossible. It’s just too epic. There’s too much there. This is the same, but the negative side of that."
Here Stevens describes his latest and first documentary project that was inspired by that sight many years ago.
