On the morning of September 11, 2001, photojournalist Allan Tannenbaum and his wife Debora were in their Manhattan loft just six blocks from the World Trade Center when they saw the explosion on the north tower. Islamist terrorists had just attacked using hijacked passenger jets as missles.
Tannenbaum grabbed his cameras and ran outside. Several times that day he thought he might be taking his last picture. These are his photographs from that terrible day.
