Fixed Flow is an art project by Sjoerd Knibbeler, commissioned by the Dutch National Maritime Museum. It is the result of an exchange and collaboration between Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN), Maritime engineering students from the Technical University of Delft and visual artist Sjoerd Knibbeler. Inspired by towing tests used to measure properties of new ships, Knibbeler developed a technique to capture water flows around model ships directly onto photographic paper: a photogram made under water, showing the flow around model ships. These models are 3D prints of various types of ships, designed by the engineering students; among them a cargo ship, a trimaran and a sailing yacht. The project was exhibited in the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam from March till July 2018.
