Case: The client is a company that is specialized in moulding ship hulls made from steel and aluminium. In the production process fitting moulds are used to check if the metal plates are pressed in the right shape. These mould are modelled in Rhinoceros 3D and are afterwards they are milled out MDF. Modelling the fitting moulds is very labour intensive, because it requires a lot of repetition. Therefore it is a process that is very suitable to automate with Grasshopper. With my studio I have developed a Grasshopper definition that automatically generates the fitting moulds. Now the moulds don’t have to be modelled piece by piece, but they can easily be generated with the use of the Grasshopper definition. Furthermore values can be easily adjusted in the model. For example the number of moulds that are drawn across the plate, or the height of the moulds and the thickness of the MDF that will be used.
