gestus redux (excerpt)

Hector Rodriguez

This is a short excerpt from the video installation Gestus Redux, a thoroughly revised version of Gestus: Judex. The installation is a grid. In the center, the film Judex (Louis Feuillade, 1916) is played in linear order. A custom software locates eight segments, all from the same film, with similar motions. The similarity is based on direction and speed, not on the object that moves. The software sometimes matches a person with a car or a dog, for instance. This strategy focuses attention on movement rather than object.
