"Design Miami Pavilions: Flotsam & Jetsam" has been accepted to be presented at Rob|Arch 2018 (robarch2018.org) through the Rob|Arch 2018 Call for Videos.
As the 2016 recipient of the Design Miami Design Visionary Award, SHoP was invited to create a pavilion at the gateway to the exhibition. Our installation, “Flotsam & Jetsam,” exists at the intersection of Miami’s celebrated spirit of play, represented by a relocated landscape that mimics the beach, and the city’s emergent function as a center for creative visioning and technological discovery. In their form and mode of fabrication, the pavilions also unveil a deeply collaborative process of creation. Working with Branch Technology and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee, the pavilions were 100% digitally designed and 3D printed in a matter of months. Now, “Flotsam & Jetsam” lives on in Jungle Plaza in Miami’s Design District as a permanent public amenity for the local community to enjoy.
