"po_prostej ceramics" has been accepted to be presented at Rob|Arch 2018 (robarch2018.org) through the Rob|Arch 2018 Call for Videos.
It all started with a school project in cooperation with „Manufaktura Bolesławiec”, which is the largest manufacturer of ceramics exports in Poland. Completely hand-made, which is a big advantage of these products.
Our task was to embody the robot in the process of plate decoration. After visiting the factory, talking with employees, familiarizing with technology, materials, processing we returned to school and started work. We have been looking for moments in which a robot can surpass human capabilities, complement, cooperate, or perform the simplest but most time consuming job at a much faster pace. After conversations our group concluded that straight lines are the hardest for human hands, and for robot this is the simplest algorithm of 2 connected points. So we started playing and experimenting with materials, tools and techniques. We tried to stamp with a sponge, paint with a brush, but finally put on the aerograph and apply the paint under pressure. Slipware, pigment of different concentrations, colorful glaze, we were looking for a good color after the second fire and the possibility of continuous production without clogging the airbrush. After many attempts to set the power, height and angle of the tool to the plate, places of aerograph turn, we were able to make a repeatable series of plates.
