"…..I love sounds just as they are, and I have no need for them to be any more then what they are….. The sound experience which I prefer to all others is the experience of silence and the silence almost everywhere in the world now is traffic..… if you listen to Beethoven or to Mozart you see that they are always the same, but if you listen to traffic you see that it is always different…."(John Cage)
Homage to John Cage was made in reference to John Cage's piece 4′33″, composed in 1952. It was filmed at the Clifford Chance Building, Canary Wharf, London. It emerged from my experience with this space when I first entered the building, the sound of the ventilation system made me feel isolated from the building’s surroundings and from the world - like entering another dimension.
The sound is enhanced in order to encompass the viewer, and - by listening with patience - the dynamic flux of the surrounding ambient sounds is more evident.
