The Devil's Abacus performed on August 26, 2018, at Vogel Hall, in the Marcus Center of Performing Arts, at Milwaukee's Fringe Festival.
Commissioned by Present Music, it brought together audio, video, live sound performance, and directed audience.
Audio for the work composed entirely of sampled and re-arranged sound from documentaries about the use of solitary confinement to control the general prison population in American penal system, and the live recording of performers Talib and Adam.
Video included animation and live footage of performance work; video cued the live sound performance.
It was a privilege to make and stage The Devil's Abacus in solidarity with the prison strike currently held by people who wish to withdraw from the slave labor and other inhumane conditions they are enduring in prison in the USA.
