The Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2012 collection celebrates the adventure of great style. Prep classics are modernized through saturated colors and energized patterns. Structured, slim shapes are at home in the city, but still these clothes beg to be taken off the grid.
Colors inspired by pop art make even classic knits and polos a bit twisted. Iconic, American shapes are updated in contemporary fabrics and execution for a modern interpretation of prep. Color blocking and nautical stripes (used every which way, including as mac taping down a side seam on a pair of jeans) underscore the overall boldness. Camo, rendered in faintly dusty groups of tonal blue, green, and red, hint at the great outdoors, while lightweight leather jackets and desert boots provide extra protection from the elements. For more urban adventures, the varsity jacket is re-imagined and paired with riffed-on nautical stripes and new-shape polos, replete with a collegiate TH varsity patch. Nautical-inspired tailoring—cotton twill suiting with taped stripes detail, a seersucker motorcycle jacket—are paired with brogue-detailed shoe boots and loafers in camo, cordovan, and navy. Outerwear is key: the classic jean jacket in red leather, featherweight anoraks, extra-soft suede blazers, and leather-sleeved varsity jackets are essential to completing the look. Highly civilized, slightly rebellious.
