Nanovibrancy : an auditory performance of nanoscale resonance. Presented at the John Curtin Gallery in Perth, Western Australia on the 10th July 2011.
A Silk membrane is probed by the Atomic Force Microscope, which measures nanoscale amplitudes of vibrations on the membrane's surface in real time. This activity is symbolic of listening at the nanoscale as the sound presented is representative of the atomic environment. A feedback loop is also generated between the nano-environments and the human-scale acoustic environment.
