We shot this Ad in many locations in Kenya and Hong Kong, with a ton of extras to co-ordinate. The Ad needed to appeal to a wide spectrum of audiences anywhere in the world so we had to ensure to give it a non-specific identity irrespective of characters used. We made sure to show actual blind Kenyan champion Runner Henry Wanyoike go through several terrains "across" continents "over a day", and at the end of the day he wins a marathon, but can only achieve that because he has a Partner who guides him through the endless journey. Creating these two worlds drove the concept and we had to represent it many various ways. Trust as a take-out obviously became key for the Brand. An emotional identification with the blind runner's quest becomes automatic towards the bank. We had fun shooting this Ad, built a beautiful "partnership" with Henry and his co-runner. The biggest challenge was moving through all these locations in the short time we had, and of cos keeping pace with the never-tiring Henry. We were shooting in China for the first time so it was a beautiful challenge as we had to navigate the culture, the pace and working with a well oiled Chinese production machine, and on those two days we were there Hong Kong weather decided to give us endless fog. In China as well we cemented amazing relationships and got to eat a LOT of dimsum. A beautiful unforgettable experience that we must do again.
