Smyth Magnet IB World School, a K-8 school in Chicago Public Schools, is a magnet school offering the International Baccalaureate IB Primary Years Programme and the IB Middle Years Programme.
The International Baccalaureate exposes students to different cultures and languages. At Smyth IB World School, students learn Mandarin and broaden their understanding of Chinese culture with fields trips and school-wide events.
In collaboration with the Chicago Chinese Cultural Institute, Smyth Magnet saw a rare performance by Super Orient Courser in the Spring of 2011. Super Orient Courser is an ensemble of young musicians who have brought a contemporary flair to ancient Mongolian music with such elements as the horse head fiddle and unique overtone ("throat") singing. The group performed for President Obama during his official state visit to China.
