A study of the End Times - Revelation 2018 PM # 26 - Babylon Rebuilt And Destroyed 09/16/18
Babylon! The word alone has a stigma that makes anyone who's read the Bible think of worldliness. In the O.T., it was the dreaded place Jewish captives were taken, it sent the army that slew the last of the Jewish kings and destroyed the holy city of Jerusalem.
It was at Babylon that Daniel resisted temptation to become carnal, where Meshack, Shadrach and Abednego refused to worship a gold image, where Daniel was thrown in the lion's den for disobeying an order not to pray, where Esther saved the Jews from slaughter at the hands of Haman, where Ezekiel prophesied, and finally Nehemiah and Ezra led thousands of Jews home to rebuild Jerusalem.
If Egypt was the nation the Jews had to leave to follow God, then Babylon was the nation they had to survive to grow spiritually. The cruelty of the Babylonian captivity was so severe in chastising them, that though the Jews had flirted with idolatry for a thousand years, from Rachel to Solomon, after returning from Babylon, Israel never committed idolatry again.
For hundreds of years, during the Babylonian, Median and Persian empires, it was the center of the world and the home of all false worship. It's false gods and goddesses found their way into Greek and Roman paganism, some think even influencing the beginning of Hinduism in India, where there are literally thousands of deities to worship today.
