You grow as your child grows.
Don’t use one style of parenting for every stage of life.
Don’t get the styles in the wrong order.
The four stages of parenting are Commander, Coach, Counselor and Consultant.
A Coach Trains.
· Between the ages of 5-12 your job is to train your child to live by the values you hold.

· Family values make decisions and discipline easier.
· A coach has to stop bad habits and instill good habits.
· The natural propensity of your child is the wrong direction—Proverbs 7:7, 29:15
· Coaching combines discipling with the “why?”
A coach moves toward a goal—“the way.”
· The goal of parenting is to raise a child who pursues God.
· Coaches help children see how faith intersects decisions and relationships.
· Teach your children to be decision makers not order takers.
A coach lives for long term goals—“when he is old.”
· Scripture makes the assumption that there will be rebellion.
· Parenting is a partnership.
