The African-American Studies Department is hosting a conference, The John B. Slaughter Symposium, “A View from the Mountaintop: 50 Years Later” to be held on Wednesday September 19, 2018 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Stamp Student Union. The purpose of the conference is to discuss the political climate in the present and draw comparison to and lessons from 1968 as well as offer analysis concerning the extent to which many of the issues outlined in the Kerner Report still resonate today. Most importantly, we hope to impart a sense of how we as citizens can affect change in our community and beyond.
