James Kalm is caught doing late night recon on the installation of recent paintings by one of today’s most accomplished and recognized artists, Peter Doig. Kalm returns for the opening to bring viewers a glimpse of the works and the attendant crowd of art world dignitaries and well-wishers. Using diverse means, and sources, Doig paints with a spontaneous and inventive hand achieving layers of translucent color that recalls Rothko’s scrims of pigment and the simplified figure in landscape compositions of Milton Avery.
