The HMCS Yukon is a 366ft Canadian Mackenzie Class Destroyer that was sunk (well more accurately it foundered the night before it was due to be sunk!) as an artificial wreck in July 2000. It is widely considered as San Diego's premier offshore dive site and is dove by thousands of divers each year. After many years below the waves, the ship is now covered in matridiums, anemones and other marine life. The wreck attracts considerable fish life, and sightings of large lingcod and rockfish are not uncommon. At certain times of the year huge schools of juvenile fish shroud the wreck. It's a truly breathtaking dive under the right conditions.
