Water striders go by many names. These include Jesus bugs, Water gliders, skimmers, and water bugs to name a few. They use the surface tension of the water to stay afloat. The rear legs are spread far apart and the front legs look like the arms of a down hill ski bum. The middle legs seem to tweak the water producing ripples and use the tension to propel themselves.
As I was recording their movements ... it started to rain.
