This was the first ever Globacom Ad, shot on 35mm, before digital claimed the space it occupies now. We are posting the commercial because it brings back great memories. We shot it over 10days in various parts of Nigeria and finished it in South Africa. We had to create the big ball as a physical giant entity that people could touch, feel and interact with, but also had to create an animated one that we could graphically fly from place to place and use it to connect Globacom to the whole of Nigeria, but all the while making believe it was the same ball throughout. It is always significant to remember that magic should never be revealed. We then added a Glo (glow) in Post which denoted the effect Globacom would have on those who used it. Yes this was a huge Ad, but we also had to ensure that we capture detail, texture and nuance too to connect the brand to people and the various cultures and expression, thus foregrounding emotion, and the score we created did a great job with that. It was critical to tell a story as well rather than just fly the ball from place to place, thus the announcement by the little boy of the ball "coming" and we follow it until it flies across the sky (the brand reaching heights beyond imagination), which it now has. Managing the many, many variables, including charting a flight to Nigeria with all the critical equipment we needed, helped build confidence in us that size would not matter to us after that, and we have come this far with our continuous ability to manage every challenge demanded by all the productions we have produced. The Globacom Big Ball Ad played a significant role in the beginning of that growth.
