Bob Allen presented an interesting paper on the idea of the cost of labour and energy, and how it historically creates certain capital investment outcomes.
His thesis is (naturally) widely challenged but in this talk which took place at the European Historical Economics Society (ehes.org) on the 2nd of September 2011.
