„Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?”* Part 1

The title derives of an essay by Linda Nochlin (1931-2017) from 1971. The American art historian examines the institutional hurdles responsible for the massive underrepresentation of female artists in the art world. The SALOON, the network for women working in art as curators, artists, gallerists, journalists or scientist in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna and Paris, together with Performing Encounters, uses Nochlin's ideas as an opportunity to raise public awareness of women in the art of the past decades. In short lectures, SALOON members introduce topics and personalities that have helped shape the art scene of their respective time, but in the history of which little or no consideration has been given.
