Colourmovie: "This project draws inspiration from the historic Ricardo Montalbán Theater in Hollywood, home of the Cinema Tuesdays screening series sponsored by Nike Sportswear and curated by Flux. The weekly series features innovative motion pictures as well as unique live events. In the design, we chose to explore the concept of nesting, presenting vignettes of art installations, filmmaking, and music in a deconstructed and offbeat way. These layers of art, film, and music all exist inside nested boxes within the theater, revealing all that Cinema Tuesdays has to offer. The whimsical, lullaby-esque music composed in-house helps complement the dreamlike quality of the piece. The design celebrates the rare and one of a kind event that brings all these art forms together."
Based on a single style frame designed by Colourmovie's Brandon Martinez, I was given the freedom to create a fantastic world of props, flora, and the occasional cameo in this theatrical show open. A one-man job, I modeled (with some help from TurboSquid), textured, and animated this little gem over an intermittent period between projects during my tenure at Colourmovie. The entire project was created in a single Cinema 4D scene and edited via stage objects. (The toon-shaded opening sequence as well as the Pyrocluster-generated clouds were the only elements to be composited separately.) The final lockup emulates the posterized official logo. Music excellently scored by John McGinnis who recorded all the instrumentals and vocals.
