Terror. Torture. The words rightly make us shudder. Around the world, from Afghanistan to Iraq to Swaziland to the USA, the catastrophic cycle of violence between states and armed groups is a global human rights crisis. What can we do to end it? At Amnesty International's 2011 Annual General Meeting, we heard the personal stories of Talat Hamdani, who lost her son in the September 11 attacks, and Maher Arar who was kidnapped by the US and flown secretly to Syria where he was tortured. They were joined by Matthew Alexander, a former senior US military interrogator in Iraq, and Professor Darius Rejali, author of “Torture and Democracy,” who discussed the impact of torture and terror on the global community. Watch this panel to learn what you can do end torture and terror, and how you can join our campaign to ensure security with human rights.
Moderated by Juan Mendez, the U.N Special Rapporteur on Torture and a former Prisoner of Conscience.
