Charles G. Koch and David H. Koch have a vested interest in delaying climate action: they've made billions from their ownership and control of Koch Industries, an oil, chemical & manufacturing corporation that is the second largest privately-held company in America. Since 1977, the Kochs have established and funded a vast network of overlapping think tanks (e.g. The Cato Institute), institutes, foundations (Americans For Prosperity), media outlets, and lobby groups that vilify centralized government, promote laissez-faire capitalism as the only route to economic prosperity, and focus on fighting environmental regulation opposing clean energy legislation and easing limits on industrial pollution. Since 1997, the Koch foundations have contributed over $55 million in traceable grants to climate opposition groups spreading anti-global warming propaganda. In 2010, Koch Industries was named one of the top ten air polluters in the United States by the Political Economy Research Institute. These findings prove suspicions that there is a well-funded, strategically-crafted opposition to the science of climate change.
