God’s heart for disciplining others can be found in Isaiah 61:1-6, the very passage Jesus read at the onset of His ministry, declaring that “today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” As he continues his series on discipleship, Daniel teaches how each verse equips us to come both alongside and under people whose lives are broken, binding up their wounds. We can bring good news to the afflicted, the saving power of God, just by speaking truth into people’s lives, enabling them to enter an entirely new kingdom. Just as Jesus did, we can speak liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners by proclaiming God’s kind and powerful disposition toward us.
