This is a video of the group Lytle/Cartwright/Moss aka "Meltable Snaps It" performing in the Insight/Out New Music Festival at Jacob's Pillow in 1985. The group, a strong member of the 80's New York City Downtown Music Scene is made up of:
Michael Lytle - Bass and Contra-Bass Clarinets and toys
George Cartwright - Saxs, Flute and toys
David Moss - Multiple Percussion and voice.
camera - Caro Thompson
This is quite an historic new music document. I hope you enjoy it. The quality could be better, no doubt, but we feel luckly to have this performance record. No other videos were made of the group as far as we know.
MSI was founded at the Creative Music Studio in 1979 and was the expanstion of the Lytle/Cartwright Duo. Michael and George heard David playing with a visiting group and were inspired immediately, blown away, actually. David, a big bear of a man, was the multiple percussionist's percussionist, who carried probably a real ton of stuff to each gig. Also, as you can tell, he has an amazing voice - his calling card today. We remain impressed with the music MSI made through the mid-80's (2 vinal recordings, a couple tours, many New York City performances, with very noteable guests, most of which were recorded.
Michael and George are working on a web site that documents these years, and have finished the Duo section. They are just beginning to post the Trio section, (October, 2011) and will be featuring those recordings, so be sure to check in often at http://www.georgecartwright.com/lytle_cartwright/index.html
