Our autumn exhibition delves into the darkness that art continuously returns to, from Romantic 19th-century painting to contemporary art.
We will present the hellish in a wider sense with artists that witness, expose and are enticed by the darkness inside us and around us.
In Liljevalchs' galleries the audience will encounter Goya's expressive late-18th-century imagery and the mythical 19th-century painter Marcus Larsson, as well as contemporary Swedish and international artists, including Dick Bengtsson, Glenn Brown, Ann Böttcher, Sten Eklund, Jenny Holzer, Hans Jörgen Johansen, Roj Friberg, Maria Miesenberger, Tracey Moffatt, Ulrik Samuelson, Cindy Sherman, P-O Ultvedt and Sun Xun
Visitors will also be invited to enter a scene from Hell, based on the stage design for a 17th-century miniature theatre owned by the Drottningholm Palace Theatre.
Exhibition curators: Douglas Feuk, author, and Mårten Castenfors, director of Liljevalchs.
