Mithra, Prospect 1, New Orleans, LA, USA 2008

Mark Bradford lives and works in Los Angeles. He describes his paintings as de-collage and collage transformed from scrap paper into abstracted large-scale works of art. He also has produced videos where he has demonstrated expressions of the individual and the will to place oneself in society with determination.

Mark Bradford’s work for Prospect 1 “Mithra” was created in Los Angeles using scrap building materials and reconstructed on the former site of a funeral parlor in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans, in an area that was hardest hit by the floods of Hurricane Katrina. The arc is formed around two shipping containers. It’s 22ft high, 64ft long, and weighs 93,000 pounds. interview: lidia rossner // video: alex rossner
