Due to war conflicts in Burma, many Karen flew from Karen-State into Thailand. There they found refuge in camps that over time developed into large towns with their own society and economy.
Unfortunately they are not able to get out because of the Thai immigration laws. They do not have identity papers and therefore are not registered as legal citizen, so there is barely any hope of having a normal life. Several NGOs are helping them getting poperly educated to create a living for themselves in the future.
In May 2011 I went to Thailand with NGO ADRA to visit the refugee camp Mae La. This is the story of what's happening down there in the jungle. A tale of little heroes.
