In a time of increased xenophobia, “Know Your Neighbor” educates audiences in a way that inherently forges connection and curiosity. By conquering fear- the root of dangerous and divisive events- our unadulterated humanity can be unveiled. While celebrating the multifaceted fabric of our community, the ways in which we are more alike than dissimilar is the common thread throughout this captivating film.
The impact of the film "Know Your Neighbor" is difficult to calculate, and significant across multiple levels. In a creative style that is uniquely his own, Aaron Farrington beautifully captures the essence of nine immigrants who proudly call Charlottesville their home. Refugee immigrants who escaped from war, SIVs (special immigrant visa holders) who fought alongside U.S. forces in conflict, immigrants who chose to begin life anew in America, and an undocumented immigrant whose days are filled with trepidation...this film gives viewers immeasurable insight into the lives of those whose stories are rarely revealed.
This film is a Charlottesville collaboration between Aaron Farrington and myself as well as these local organizations, International Neighbors, the IRC, and Bama Works. This film was made here in Charlottesville, the musical score features all local Charlottesville artists.
