Understanding our past is necessary for us to move into the future, but this understanding does not define where you are going. Think about the verbs that guide you toward the past, they are not the same as those that will lead you into the future. Towards the past you can: know, accept, forgive, understand, heal, dismiss, relieve, among others. Towards the future, you must: create, dream, project, design, risk, discover, among others. So, understanding our history helps us make sense of the known, but if we want to change the present, we must venture into the unknown; the new must illuminate the past.
