After annual service and inspection, the 3-mast schooner S/S Christiania is re-launched on the slipway from the shipyard at Sjursøya, Oslo.
The slipway is the last of its size in the Oslo area, and ceased operations at the end of 2018. S/S Christiania became the last commercial vessel to be serviced and relaunched at this shipyard. As such this launching was history in the making.
S/S Christiania was build in Finland in 1948 for costal transport. She was one of the last commercial ships to be built for sail only, without an engine. This was due to the poor economy in Finland after WW2.
S/S Christiania dimensions: 33m/110ft long, 7.5m/23ft wide. Draft 2.5m/8.2ft. 123 Gross tons. Engine: 365 HP Caterpillar.
Today S/S Christiania is operated by Norway Yacht Charter AS in Oslo, Norway. nyc.no
