Te Kākano is a Wanaka based habitat restoration trust that has been going for ten years. Its volunteers have raised and planted out more than 30,000 locally sourced native plants, most of which are thriving, in spite of harsh local conditions. Its successful track record has recently won it funding from the government’s Freshwater Improvement Fund, which will help double its planting programme.
River Stories recognise and celebrate the contribution of individuals, groups, businesses and communities working together to make a difference to the health of New Zealand’s rivers and streams. Cawthron Foundation is proud to be running the NZ River Awards 2018.
