The Xixi wetlands lie in the west of the city of Hangzhou, in eastern China. This is China's 'first national wetland park', dubbed as such to act as a role model to all other wetlands in China and to supposedly show how to effectively manage and restore wetlands.

Eco-tourism has been touted as the saviour to many environmental crises in China, however the concepts behind this fledgling movement are struggling to take hold in a developing nation and society trying to catch up with the western world.

Photographer and videographer Sean Gallagher, travels to China to report for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and the Asia Society.
