At WE DANCE, My name is Tessa and I am a dancer/choreographer local to Martha's Vineyard. For the past two years, I have been treating and fighting chronic Lyme disease and Babesiosis. While I'm slowly and steadily improving, I still spend about 60% of my waking hours recuperating on my couch. These video clips are the beginning of a project called "Couch Choreography." The project began with a simple desire to continue dancing despite illness. It also grows from a need to communicate what's going on inside of my body as a result of this "invisible" illness, in a way that is still engaging to an audience. This is footage in its earliest and rawest form. My hope is to build a more polished piece that addresses the joys and struggles of engaging in a creative life with a serious illness.
