Worship is the remedy for idolatry that would destroy us. In 2 Chronicles 28, we read of Ahaz who became king at the age of twenty. He turned away from the living God and made metal images of Baal. As he gave more and more of himself away, his idolatry multiplied until “he made offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree” (2 Chr 28:4). When the nation was defeated, Asa turned to Assyria for help rather than the LORD. When he was in great distress, he offered worship to his captors and closed the doors of the house of God. False gods will never say you have done enough. Their demands are incessant and will seek to take everything away. Only worship offered to the living God brings life.
