Sheriff Bill Gore speaks to KUSI's Ed Lenderman about the realignment plan. Under realignment, no prisoners that are currently housed in state prison will be physically transferred to county jail or released early. Those currently serving time in state prison will remain there until they finish their sentences. As of October 1, 2011, anyone convicted of a nonviolent, nonserious, nonsex offense as defined by law, will be eligible to serve their sentence in county jail rather than state prison. Realignment will happen prospectively with full implementation occurring over a two year period.
