These are a series of videos leading up the 10^10 Blow Out event.
The videos follow the development of 10 dresses, a collaboration between designer, educator, artist Martha Skinner of 10^10 with garment designer Brooke Priddy of Ship to Shore. With 10 triangles of increasing sizes, arranged in 10 different ways, 10 unique dresses are created. Each dress is made in short playful sessions in different locations, and as process/performances they lead and approach the space of the event as the outcome is revealed. The 10 dresses, based on one pattern, are an example of what can potentially generate thousands of unique designs and represent the exponential power of design.
Sound Piece by Elisa Fares is composed using a Balinese pentatonic scale; in which five different notes derived from 10 are used.
At the event, various other artists, including performer and signer Molly Kummerle from Paper Tiger, dancers and choreographers Susan and Giles from The Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, new-media artist Gene Felice from the Creative Technology and Art Center (hosted by the Odyssey Community School), acoustical engineer, Scott Shepard from Kuma Sonics, sound artist, Elisa Faires, and the theorist and media-artist David McConville from Elumenati and the Buckminster Fuller Institute, expand this idea through an encompassing kinesthetic, auditory and visual experience that communicates the mission of 10^10 to promote simple design ideas that have exponentially positive effects on humanity and the environment.
10^10 projects include: a sonic wall that absorbs airborne pollution while lining highways with beguiling lights, a collective film that reveals what healthy interaction between individuals and their cities might look like, a dispersed memorial for the victims of 9/11 prompting a collective conversation and exchange, and an interface which makes design accessible to all by allowing people who wouldn’t normally be able to afford a custom-designed home to participate in the design of their own.
